Is your work/life balance out of sync? In today’s episode of my Master Flow series, I dive deep into the topic of work-life balance and how to break free from the limitations holding you back from true personal and professional fulfillment.

I’ll be addressing the pressures many face when work or business starts to dominate their time and energy. I'll explore the steps to transition into a thriving life, a journey that requires strength and the motivation to embrace change. Entrepreneurs often prioritize work at the expense of personal well-being and development, but it’s time to shift that mindset. I encourage reflection on your personal goals and help you reconnect with your "why." Plus, more! Listen in for practical tips on achieving work-life balance and building the life you’ve always envisioned.

Mastering Flow of Life

Welcome to another episode where we explore mastering the flow of life. Today, we’re focusing on work/life balance—a topic that resonates deeply with many of my students. When they first come to me, they often find themselves in a place where their work or business is consuming all their time and energy. They’ve reached the point where they say, “I can’t keep doing this. I’m exhausted. I’ve pushed too far, and I’m done.”

So, what’s the solution? I remember one of my clients telling me, “You’re my last hope before I close my business.” I was surprised. Her business was profitable, generating good income, but her health was suffering. She needed space to take care of herself, physically and mentally. Even though the business was successful on the surface, it wasn’t sustainable.

But wait—what if there’s another way? What if there’s a different approach? That’s what I teach in Master Flow. There are always other ways to do things.

First, let’s acknowledge the victory in realizing that the way you're living isn’t sustainable. That awareness is the starting point for real change. If you’re not fully convinced that something needs to change, it won’t.

You’ll stay stuck.

Embracing change takes strength and a clear understanding of why you must do it. You want to live a life that feels balanced, flowing, and aligned. If you’re at the stage where you know something has to shift, congratulate yourself. You may not know how yet, but this awareness is important.

I often say, "You can’t help people who don’t want to be helped." That’s because change is uncomfortable. It means shedding old habits, perhaps ones you’ve had for years. Sometimes it’s a small shift, but other times it’s a complete 180-degree or even 360-degree transformation. You need to be fully on board with the decision to change.

Once you commit to that change, a huge part of the battle is won. You’ve made a pact with yourself to live differently. You’ve chosen to prioritize your well-being. That decision is everything, and it’s worth celebrating.

Now, you might be wondering, how do I do that? What I often see, especially among entrepreneurs and professionals, is that we put work first—sometimes to the point of burnout. This is common, not only in business but in corporate environments as well. It’s all too easy to let work take over, pushing aside our health and happiness.

Finding Work/Life Balance

For many of us, it can feel like everything revolves around work. You might be thinking, “But Lucy, my business is my baby.” I hear you—I’ve been there. My first business was my baby too, and I had to close it. Losing 90% of my revenue during COVID was heartbreaking. I understand how difficult it is. But here’s the thing—you can love your business deeply and still find balance.

The key is to put yourself at the center of your life. Work is just one aspect. Family, health, relationships, fun, and your contribution to the world are all important parts of the bigger picture. By placing yourself—your whole being—at the center, you can find balance.

It starts with knowing who you are and getting clear on what you truly want, both in business and life.

What I see as a common issue is that people focus too much on the business and forget about the bigger picture—life itself. Business is a tool, a resource to help you achieve your life’s mission, your deepest goals, and desires. But often, as business owners, we get caught up in the economic part—the need to generate more profit, to chase the next milestone. And in that process, we lose sight of why we started in the first place.

If you’ve been running your business for a while, I invite you to reflect: Do you remember why you started? What was the essence behind it?

For me, I started my first business because I wanted to stay longer in Bali. I wasn’t even a business owner at the time, but I knew I had to find a way to make it work because life was good there.

That was eight years ago. I didn’t set out to be an entrepreneur—I just wanted to create a life that fulfilled me, that aligned with my dreams. The entrepreneurial journey became the way to bring that dream to life, and it came from something deeply personal, within me.

Reconnecting to Your Why

If you’re struggling with work/life balance, the key is to reconnect with your "why"—the reason you started in the first place.

Take a moment to ask yourself: What truly matters to me right now? Where do I want to be in my life a year from now?

Maybe your answer is, “I want a family,” or “I want to focus on my health,” or “I just want peace of mind.” Perhaps it's something as simple as building savings for your first home.

Once you get clear on what you want, everything becomes easier. We can adjust your business model to support your life goals, not the other way around. This is exactly what I help my clients with—aligning their business to their personal vision. But here’s the thing: if you approach it from the reverse—focusing solely on profitability or making more money—it won’t work in the long term. You need to be at the center of your life.

Your fulfillment, happiness, and joy come from being aligned with your core values. Everything else—work, relationships, success—gravitates around that. When you gain clarity on your "why," the path forward becomes much clearer. Life is full of possibilities, and there are countless ways to create the balance you need.

If you’re ready to embrace change, I’m here to support you on that journey. Transitions can be challenging, with ups and downs, but with the right support, magic can happen. Work/life balance is possible, and it starts with one decision: placing yourself at the center of your life.
