Finding Home Within
In this episode of In Between Homes, I welcome Ghislain.
Despite being born and raised in Australia, Ghislain never felt a deep sense of belonging there—or anywhere. She moved frequently as a child, with the longest stretch being nine years in Melbourne, two of which were during lockdown.
For her, the concept of home transformed when she shifted her focus inward. She realized that home isn’t tied to a physical place but to the grounding she creates within herself. This inner foundation allowed her to feel at home no matter where she was, as a tourist abroad or in her own country.
She believes our sense of home evolves alongside us, reflecting our personal growth and the journeys we choose to embark on.
Life Then and Now
Ten years ago, Ghislain’s life looked entirely different.
Back then, she was immersed in the early stages of a corporate career as an interior architect. Like many in that field, she was fully devoted to her craft, working tirelessly to establish herself as a success. The idea of her current life would have been unimaginable.
Today, she has transformed her path into something she finds deeply fulfilling. She creates transformative experiences—programs, retreats, and coaching containers—that empower women to step into their fullest potential. Her work helps women clarify who they are, identify what's no longer serving them, and release limitations through a combination of conscious and subconscious work, energy healing, and trauma release.
Ghislain’s mission is to guide women to align their businesses with their soul’s purpose and lifestyle. She challenges the traditional corporate model, introducing a spiritual and intentional approach that supports modern, global ways of working. By merging soulful practices with business, she helps women turn their service into a force for humanity.
A decade ago, she could never have imagined this transformation—and now, she’s helping others create their own.
A Journey of Transformation
Ghislain’s journey from a corporate career in interior architecture to founding her own business, Maydn, is one of transformation.
As a survivor of domestic violence, she always believed her experiences had a purpose, even if it wasn’t clear at the time. Midway through her architecture career, a life-changing moment forced her to reevaluate everything: she was hit by a car.
This incident halted her fast-paced life and made her question her purpose. Despite a successful global career that looked perfect on paper, she was burned out, disconnected, and living without alignment.
Realizing she needed change, she began exploring her values, her "why," and how she wanted to serve humanity. That’s when she envisioned a life beyond corporate work. In her final year in the corporate world, she launched workshops to help stressed employees manage mental health—planting the seeds of Maydn.
As her focus shifted, Ghislain started working in the healing space, supporting women through tailored experiences to release trauma, reclaim their power, and align their lives with their purpose. Her personal healing journey deepened her understanding of the body’s incredible ability to heal, which became central to her work.
In April 2023, a visit to Bali changed everything. She felt an undeniable pull to stay, but her business at the time wasn’t set up for location independence. Determined to create a life aligned with her spirit, she returned to Melbourne, restructured her business for online work, and made the leap.
Through Maydn, Ghislain now empowers women to live intentionally, aligning their careers and lifestyles with their true selves. She proves that entrepreneurship is an ever-evolving journey—one that requires resilience, strategy, and a willingness to adapt.
Her story is a testament to the power of transformation and finding freedom by aligning your life with your values.
Evolving the Business
For Ghislain, adjusting her business to align with the life she wants has been a journey of growth and mindset shifts. One of the biggest challenges? Getting out of her own way.
"Sometimes I think things need to be harder than they are, or I let fear creep in—like when I transitioned my business online. I worried, How is this going to work? But as business owners, it’s our responsibility to figure that out. Now, I see every evolution as an opportunity to ask, How can I make this work? It’s a mindset shift from fear and contraction to possibility and excitement."
The key, she believes, is embracing the ever-changing nature of both life and business. Nothing stays static, and our needs evolve. This requires constant curiosity and adaptability.
When you shift your mindset from resistance to curiosity and possibility, abundance and ease follow.
For Ghislain, this approach allows her to create strategies that align her business with her values, enabling her to thrive in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.
Defining Values
What role do values play in Ghislain's life and business?
She says they’re everything. It’s one of the first things she works on with female entrepreneurs because your values anchor your life and business. When you make decisions from a place of alignment with your values, you’re always staying true to what’s most important to you.
Ghislain has spent time reflecting on her values—understanding what they mean to her, how they feel when she’s in alignment with them, and how to recognize when she’s out of sync. This clarity allows her to audit her business and lifestyle regularly, ensuring they remain true to her mission and purpose.
She emphasizes the importance of avoiding the trap many new entrepreneurs fall into: replicating the corporate structures they left behind. Creating a purpose-driven business is more than just work—it’s a lifestyle. Don’t trade one cage for another. Instead, design a business that offers true freedom.
For anyone starting out, her advice is clear: define your why, your mission, and your values. They’ll guide you through the inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship and life, keeping you grounded as you pursue your vision.
Adapting to Change When Living Abroad
What was it like moving abroad for the first time?
It’s her first time living abroad. Though she’s traveled a lot and worked internationally, nothing fully prepares you for actually living in another country. Bali, in particular, has its own challenges. Living in a developing country means adapting your lifestyle and even your business to what’s available.
Despite the difficulties, Ghislain views the challenges as the right kind of hard. Moving has been tough at times, but it’s aligned with who she wants to be and how she wants to serve. For her, there’s no other choice—it’s the life she’s chosen.
What gave her the courage to make such bold changes?
She explains that It’s layered. But at the core, she knows in her soul that this is her purpose. One of her main values is courage, and if she doesn’t choose to act courageously in service of her mission, she’s betraying herself—and that cost is far greater than any challenge she’s faced.
Ghislain even took time to imagine what life would feel like if she didn’t take the leap. That felt gross and heartbreaking—much worse than any obstacles she’s encountered by living her dream life now.
Finding Your Purpose
Ghislain acknowledges that discovering your purpose takes time and reflection, and she has advice for those unsure if they even have a purpose to offer the world:
“Everybody came here for a purpose. There’s a full spectrum of soul purposes, and every one of them is equally important. Some people, like me, have these big, defining events that drive us to create change in humanity. Others have a purpose just as profound, like raising and empowering the next generation of children to become leaders. Both are equally valuable and essential.”
She often hears people minimize their purpose, saying it’s not big enough. But it’s not about the size of the purpose—it’s about being in alignment with it. The world needs all kinds of contributions.
Her advice? Find someone who inspires you, and who can help you gain clarity and release the fears holding you back from recognizing your purpose. Your purpose isn’t outside of you—it’s not something you can pick off a shelf or order online. It’s within you, waiting to be uncovered.
Sometimes the path to purpose isn’t just about what excites you—it’s also about what ignites your anger. What makes you angry can be a clue to your purpose. For example, one of her friends was furious about food waste after seeing global injustices. That anger drove him to create a company that reduces food waste and feeds the homeless. So pay attention to what stirs your heart—it might be pointing you toward your mission.
Embracing Purpose
Has Ghislain always been so connected to her soul and spirit, or has she developed practices to strengthen that connection?
Ghislain shared that she was a very open child and grew up in a unique environment, living on one of the largest cattle stations in New South Wales and in Aboriginal communities. She had a deep connection to herself, the land, and her spiritual being. However, as a child, her openness led her to experience things she didn’t understand, which felt scary. At one point, her uncle told her she could "turn it off," and so she did.
Years later, after being hit by a car, her spiritual gifts reawakened. She’s always had this strong knowing—dreams that would come true, intuitions about people or events—but reconnecting with her mission also meant reconnecting with her body, soul, and the intelligence all around us.
Ghislain believes deeply in the wisdom of the body, especially for women. Unlike many spiritual teachers, she sees the body as the pathway to connecting with universal consciousness. Women have an incredible guidance system within their heart, womb, vulva, and stomach. By listening to this system, we can tap into the intelligence of the earth, the elements, and the universe itself.
She emphasizes the importance of practices like meditation and embodiment, which allow her to listen to her body’s wisdom. The body is a sacred chamber of intelligence. Often, we give too much attention to the mind, but the body often knows before the mind does. Science even shows that our energetic field extends nearly two meters outward, meaning we’re constantly communicating with the energy around us. When we tune into the body, we access this intelligence.
Ghislain reflected on how societal conditioning often disconnects us from the body, particularly for women. Feelings of shame, guilt, or “not enoughness” create barriers to trusting our inner wisdom. But listening to the body can lead to profound clarity.
For example, she was sick, and her body told her she needed acupuncture—something she hated because of her fear of needles. But she listened, and it was the turning point in her healing. The body knows what it needs, even if the mind resists.
Navigating Big Life Decisions
Whether it’s starting a business, moving abroad, or taking a leap into the unknown, Ghislain encourages trusting that inner pull. It might not make sense to others, but if you feel a burning in your heart or soul to do something, trust it. There’s a reason you’re being called.
She also offered practical advice for easing the mind’s fear: Create a safety net. Ask yourself, ‘What’s my exit strategy if this doesn’t work?’ When she moved overseas, she told herself she could always book a flight back to Australia and pick up where she left off. That mental safety plan allowed her to take the leap.
For Ghislain, it’s about finding balance. We need to create safety within both the body and the mind. When we do that, we can step into our full potential without the fear of failure holding us back. And when we listen to the body and trust its guidance, life becomes easier, and the gifts that come are beyond anything we could imagine.
The Role of Money
What is Ghislain’s relationship with money?
She openly shared that her relationship with money has been a journey of healing and transformation. She’s had to do a lot of work on her money mindset she explained. Noting that financial abuse played a significant role in her past. Having all of her money taken from her and not having access to it created feelings of low self-worth and a scarcity mindset. She had to work through fear, unhealthy habits, and deeply ingrained beliefs to rebuild that relationship.
As an entrepreneur, Ghislain realized that adjusting her money mindset was important. Your relationship with money is massive when you’re running a business. For her, she’s become very comfortable saying that she intends to be a very wealthy woman. She has no shame about it. That statement can be activating for some people, but she’s unapologetic about charging what she’s worth and saying no to opportunities that don’t align with her purpose or the value she brings.
Ghislain challenges the narrative often found in spiritual circles that equates worthiness with suffering or sacrifice. There’s this idea that in order to be spiritual or purposeful, you have to give up abundance. She’s so against that. Yes, she believes in giving back, but if you can’t provide for yourself—if you can’t eat well, take care of your health, or live a life that supports your well-being—you’re actually doing a disservice to your mission.
She emphasized that cultivating a healthy relationship with money allows her to serve at her highest capacity. For example, she lives in Bali, and yes, she has people who help clean her home. That frees up her time to focus on other things. She gets organic food delivered to her because spending hours shopping at multiple places isn’t the best use of her time. It’s okay to live this way because it not only supports her work but also contributes to the local economy. By employing people, she’s helping sustain an ecosystem.
Advice for Creating a Life You Love
Ghislain’s advice for anyone looking to create a life or business they love is simple: follow the calling in your heart.
If you feel that pull—whether it’s to travel, relocate, start a business, or even ask someone out—just do it. You’ll regret the things you don’t try far more than the ones you do. Things may not go exactly as you planned, but often they turn out better. At least you gave it a shot.
She advocates for tuning into your inner guidance. Our hearts always know what we truly want. If you let your heart lead, you’ll never look back and think, ‘I shouldn’t have done that.’”
Her mantra? Don’t overthink it. Don’t let your mind talk you out of what your body or heart is urging you to try. The risk is rarely as big as we think it is, but the weight of regret is heavy. Trust yourself, take the leap, and let your heart guide you—you’ll be amazed at what unfolds.
