The Search for Home
Welcome back to the In Between Homes podcast! Today, I’m speaking with Marion. Let’s dive in—Marion, where do you consider home?
Wow, that’s a big question! Marion reflects. She moved to Barcelona almost ten years ago, thinking she'd finally found her place after years of moving around. But two or three years ago, after spending nine months in Bali, she returned to Barcelona and found herself questioning, "What’s next?" and "Where is home?"
Though she doesn’t have a clear answer, Marion knows that community—the people in her life—is what matters most. She considered moving to Portugal to be closer to family, but after living in eight countries over 20 years, she's uncertain about starting over again. It’s not about the change itself; it’s about letting go of the relationships she’s built, the people who truly feel like "her people." These are the friends she can call in the middle of the night, and they’ll be there for her.
For the last year and a half, she’s stayed with a friend and business partner, and it's these small acts of service that have shaped her idea of home. Marion’s answer to "Where is home" is still evolving, but she’s certain that it’s rooted in the deep connections she cherishes.
That’s what matters most.
Reflecting on the Past
Let’s take a step back—what was Marion’s life like 10 years ago?
Looking back at Marion's life 10 years ago shows to be a transformative time. In 2014, Marion was living in London, having already spent a decade living abroad, five of those years in the UK. That year marked a turning point as she navigated a particularly intense breakup—one that brought her to what she describes as rock bottom.
As difficult as that period was, Marion recognizes its necessity. The breakup forced her to confront truths she had long avoided. For years, she had used travel as a way to escape. But the reality was unavoidable, and eventually, she had to face it.
That moment marked the beginning of her personal growth journey. She stopped running and began to feel all the emotions she had suppressed for so long. It wasn’t an easy process—peeling back the layers of pain took time and effort, and the path forward was anything but straightforward.
The Marion of 10 years ago was much more rigid, operating from a place of pain and unhealed wounds. She describes herself then as an “aggressive warrior,” fighting her way through life. Over the years, she has worked to shed that armor, layer by layer, to open herself up to vulnerability and love.
A recent personal journey with plant medicine brought this transformation into focus for her. The recurring theme was about becoming what she calls a “heart warrior.” By releasing the heavy armor she once wore, Marion has been able to open her heart and truly experience the richness of connection, love, and relationships.
Looking back, Marion marvels at the transformation. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s one she wouldn’t trade for anything.
The Journey of Self-Discovery
Marion’s journey of self-discovery and healing has been one of removing the armor she built to survive, particularly as a woman who lived abroad, often operating in a state of heightened independence and self-protection.
Her first reflection is that what we resist often persists.
Through self-parenting, nervous system regulation, and compassionate curiosity, Marion learned to soothe herself and embrace vulnerability. She came to understand that her strong masculine energy was a survival mechanism linked to childhood trauma. As she dismantled these defenses, she found strength not in her armor, but in her vulnerability.
She chose to believe that the world could be a safe place—not entirely, but in moments and spaces where she could connect with good people and welcoming communities. This shift in mindset changed her narrative and opened her to new possibilities.
Marion advises others to prioritize creating safety for themselves and nurturing their inner child. Reassure and provide that child with the care and support they may have lacked. Commit to developing a relationship with yourself, and over time, the layers of protection will naturally begin to melt away.
She also highlights the importance of connection, particularly through women’s circles and safe spaces where vulnerability is embraced. These environments taught her that true strength lies in opening her heart, not in keeping it closed off.
True power lies in vulnerability, compassion, and trust—in herself, in others, and in the goodness of the world. Through this journey, she found a way to embrace her feminine energy and allow it to guide her toward healing and connection.
Finding Harmony with Feminine and Masculine Energy
Marion’s journey of balancing feminine and masculine energy, particularly while running a business, living abroad, and nurturing meaningful relationships, has been one of conscious effort and deep introspection.
For Marion, this is a work in progress. Coming from a background and living in a society that values masculine energy—performance, productivity, and efficiency—has shaped much of her life. While this energy drives economies and helps get things done, it often comes at a cost to personal well-being. This is not only true for women but also for men, as everyone needs a balance between the masculine and feminine.
She explains that masculine energy represents action, direction, rationality, and initiative, while feminine energy embraces rest, receptivity, and creativity. The feminine thrives in moments of stillness and introspection, allowing access to the heart’s wisdom and the creative flow that comes from being, rather than doing. When people spend too much time in their masculine energy, they risk losing this vital balance and the opportunities for creative insights that come from pausing and reflecting.
For Marion, the journey has been about learning to slow down. Now, she incorporates intentional pauses into her daily routine, setting aside 10–15 minutes to simply lie down, close her eyes, and be present with herself. Even with her progress, she admits this practice remains challenging some days, but the benefits are undeniable.
A key quality Marion has cultivated is humility. Physically and emotionally, she practices surrender, often placing herself in a child’s pose and admitting that she doesn’t have all the answers. This openness to receiving guidance, rather than always pushing forward, has been transformative. She attributes much of this shift to unlearning the toxic independence instilled by the “strong, independent woman” narrative of the 1980s. While it served its purpose in empowering women, it also pushed many to over-rely on masculine energy, creating an imbalance.
She has learned to embrace receiving—whether it’s allowing someone to pay for her meal, accepting compliments without immediately deflecting, or trusting that the universe will support her in moments of uncertainty. This shift has also allowed her to approach her work differently, creating space for intuitive insights and creative ideas to emerge naturally.
In relationships, Marion explains the importance of emotional vulnerability. She believes many women long for deeper connections but hold back, waiting for their partners to open up first. For her, creating emotional depth requires being willing to take the first step—expressing her feelings and intentions from a place of authenticity and courage.
She also stresses that achieving this level of vulnerability and balance requires foundational work—practices that regulate the nervous system, self-soothing techniques, and reparenting the inner child. By creating internal safety, it becomes less daunting to navigate external challenges or have vulnerable conversations.
Balancing feminine and masculine energy isn’t about abandoning one for the other but about creating harmony. It’s about stepping into action and logic when needed while also cultivating stillness, trust, and emotional depth.
This balance is the key to thriving in business, relationships, and life.
Exploring the Entrepreneurial Journey
Marion’s entrepreneurial journey has been anything but linear. It’s a path marked by diverse experiences, unconventional career choices, and a deep commitment to growth and impact.
Her professional life began with a variety of jobs during her youth, ranging from serving food at summer camps to working as a waitress and even camping site staff. However, one of the most transformative roles she held before venturing into entrepreneurship was her seven-year tenure as a Sales and Marketing Manager for a luxury sex toy brand. This role wasn’t just a job—it was an opportunity to shape an industry and make a difference.
Working closely with some of the world’s best erotic stores, she collaborated with designers and clients to create high-quality, body-safe products that empowered women to embrace pleasure and sexual health. The role allowed her to travel extensively and educate people about product design, safety, and the importance of pleasure as a birthright. Her work was driven by the mission to elevate industry standards and ensure inclusivity, especially when faced with a market initially dominated by subpar, unsafe products.
Her move to Barcelona marked a turning point. Initially, she took a bold leap into hospitality by opening a brunch café. However, the venture lasted just a month due to the physical demands and misalignment with her long-term vision. While short-lived, the experience taught her invaluable lessons about resilience and adaptability.
Following this, Marion began consulting for small businesses, a natural extension of her skills and experience. But through her personal journey—especially her challenges with relationships and her background in the sexual wellness industry—she felt a pull toward deeper work.
She embarked on a shamanic journey. She began organizing and holding space for plant medicine retreats, working closely with shamans and integrating the wisdom of various traditions. This immersive experience not only deepened her personal transformation but also equipped her to guide others on their healing journeys.
For the past three years, she has co-facilitated psilocybin mushroom retreats alongside her close friend. These retreats are part of a comprehensive seven-week program that includes preparation and post-retreat integration, ensuring participants receive the support they need to fully benefit from the experience.
Her entrepreneurial journey reflects the interconnected nature of her passions and skills. For Marion, entrepreneurship isn’t just about business—it’s about transformation, both for herself and those she serves.
The Art of Connection
In today’s fast-paced, stress-filled world, many women seem to lose touch with their sense of pleasure amidst the demands of work, relationships, and responsibilities. Marion offers a refreshing reminder: pleasure is not something to be earned or scheduled—it’s a vital part of life, woven into our very being.
Pleasure, she explains, can be found everywhere, in the simplest of moments: the sound of the wind, the taste of food, or the sensation of breath moving through the body. It’s about slowing down and reconnecting with our innate sensitivity, something she describes as a more feminine approach to life. By doing so, we open ourselves to the richness of sensations and the potential for joy that exists all around us.
Through her coaching and practices, Marion helps others rediscover this connection. One of her core methods is the Feminine Flow Practice, a form of non-linear movement that invites the body to move authentically based on what it feels in the present moment. This practice isn’t about external guidance, like music or predetermined poses, but about tapping into the body’s inner knowing.
Resensitizing the body is like developing a refined palate for wine. At first, the sensations might feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, but with practice, we learn to discern and amplify the spectrum of sensations available to us. Importantly, this includes both pleasure and pain.
View pain not as something to avoid but as a gateway to greater pleasure. She explains that our capacity to feel is like a spectrum: the more we allow ourselves to experience pain without resistance, the more we expand our ability to experience joy and pleasure. By meeting pain with compassionate curiosity—whether it’s physical discomfort or emotional heaviness—we can begin to shift our relationship with it.
Simple yet profound practices for engaging with pain and tightness in the body: bringing awareness to the sensation, breathing into it, and allowing the body to respond naturally, whether through movement, sound, or stillness. Often, these sensations carry messages or emotions waiting to be acknowledged. Once witnessed, they can shift, release, and transform, creating space for deeper connection and pleasure.
For Marion, this approach is rooted in ancient wisdom found in practices like Tantra and somatic work. The body has always held the tools—awareness, breath, movement, and sound—to heal and reconnect. By rediscovering and trusting this innate wisdom, we can transform our relationship with ourselves and our experiences, accessing a depth of pleasure and connection that many of us have forgotten is possible.
Pleasure is not just a luxury or an afterthought—it’s an integral part of a vibrant, connected life. By slowing down, tuning in, and embracing all aspects of our experience, we can reclaim our birthright to live fully and joyfully.
Flirting: A New Way to Connect
One of the most exciting things Marion has been doing in Barcelona is organizing unique dating events called Flirt.
These gatherings are more than just an opportunity to meet new people—they’re about rediscovering human connection in an authentic and playful way. When asked how the idea for Flirt was born, Marion shared her reflections on modern dating and the challenges many face in forming meaningful connections.
For her, flirting isn’t about manipulation or ulterior motives—it’s about pure human connection. She describes it as a playful exchange, similar to how children interact: catching someone’s eye, sharing a smile, or engaging in a moment of presence. It’s lighthearted, genuine, and free of the pressure or expectations that often come with adult relationships.
Her events aim to create spaces where people can connect deeply and authentically. Through carefully designed interactions inspired by her experiences with tantric practices and retreats, she encourages participants to strip away superficial layers and meet each other as they truly are—without pretenses or masks. She often uses the phrase “get naked,” not in a literal sense, but as a metaphor for vulnerability and openness.
The activities at Flirt events are designed to foster this connection, blending childlike playfulness with intentional practices that help participants learn about themselves and others. The goal isn’t just to find a romantic partner—it’s to feel nourished by human connection. If romance happens to blossom, Marion considers it a delightful bonus, but the core of the experience is about meaningful interaction in a real-world, offline setting.
Marion held her first Flirt event in February, and its success has inspired her to expand the concept. For 2025, she plans to introduce a variety of themed events to keep things fresh and exciting. Some will involve cooking, others will take participants out to sea on a boat—all designed to bring people together in creative, engaging environments.
At the heart of Flirt is her belief that connection and fun go hand in hand. By stepping away from the screens and diving into playful, heartfelt experiences, participants can rediscover the joy of human interaction in its most genuine form. Whether you're in Barcelona or passing through, Marion’s events offer a refreshing and much-needed alternative to the modern dating scene.
Building Safe Spaces
Marion explains the importance of creating safe spaces and fostering community, as these are fundamental needs for every human being—whether in a relationship or not. She believes everyone deserves a place where they can feel truly at ease, free to express themselves authentically and vulnerably—what she calls “being naked without being naked.”
Safety isn’t just about the rules of a space; it’s about the shared understanding and education of those within it.
To address this, Marion incorporates intentional practices in her own events. She always carves out time to ensure participants feel grounded, self-aware, and empowered to say no or change their minds. For her, creating safe spaces is about more than just rules—it’s about fostering environments where people are encouraged to stay in touch with their emotions, needs, and boundaries, even as these shift throughout the experience.
One method she draws from is the "Wheel of Consent," a framework that helps individuals navigate boundaries and intentions. Marion stresses that spaces meant for exploration and boundary-testing require clear communication and mutual understanding. Without these elements, people can come with different intentions, leading to discomfort or misaligned interactions.
In her events, Marion takes this seriously by carefully screening participants. These aren’t open-door gatherings; they’re curated experiences designed for people who value connection and self-discovery. Her events are for those who want something deeper—shared experiences built on trust, common interests, and intentionality.
Her vision is to create communities where people can explore fun activities, knowing that everyone there shares similar values and goals. Whether the activity is spiritually enriching, physically engaging, or simply entertaining, participants know they’re in an environment where everyone is single, open to connection, and respectful of boundaries.
By integrating mindfulness, consent, and a shared purpose into her events, she builds spaces where people feel truly safe to connect—not just with others but also with themselves. This, she believes, is the foundation for meaningful relationships and authentic community.
The Financial Journey
What is actually Marion’s relationship with finances and how has the journey been for her through her life?
Her relationship with finances has been deeply intertwined with her personal growth and emotional healing, particularly tied to what she describes as the “father wound.” She reflects on how this wound has shaped her journey, not only in terms of money but also in her ability to trust life, abundance, and the support around her.
For much of her earlier life, Marion managed her finances well. She had a successful career, earned a good income, and felt confident in her ability to navigate the financial world. However, when she decided to shift gears and become an entrepreneur, her perspective on money and security shifted dramatically. She expected things to flow seamlessly but soon realized there was a deeper, unconscious block: a part of her didn’t trust that she could be supported—by the universe, by life, or by the masculine energy often associated with structure and stability.
This lack of trust stemmed from a deeper emotional wound and impacted her relationship with abundance. While one part of her always believed in her potential and ability to succeed, another part doubted her, creating a sense of internal conflict. Through self-reflection and conscious effort, she’s begun to bring these unconscious beliefs into the light, slowly learning to surrender and trust that she is protected and that abundance can flow naturally when she aligns herself with this belief.
Marion points out that trusting doesn’t mean wishful thinking or leaving things to chance. It’s about balancing faith with action. Instead of panicking or overworking in a state of fear, she’s learning to take intentional moments to ground herself, trust the process, and allow herself to receive.
Another key aspect of her financial journey has been embracing structure and discipline—not as restrictive forces but as tools for safety and growth. While she excels in organizing events like retreats with ease, she admits she hasn’t always been the most structured person when it comes to her own financial systems. For her, discipline isn’t about rigidity but about creating a foundation that fosters freedom and creativity.
She believes this journey has also deepened her understanding of the balance between masculine and feminine energies. The masculine energy, represented by structure, stability, and discipline, provides the foundation necessary to hold the feminine energy of creativity, flow, and abundance. By cultivating both energies in harmony, she’s found a path toward greater financial ease and a deeper sense of trust in herself and the world.
For anyone on a similar journey, Marion offers this advice: bring love and patience into the process. Embracing structure and understanding your finances isn’t just about numbers—it’s about creating a foundation that allows you to manifest your dreams and step into a life of greater flow and abundance.
Final Thoughts
There are two things close to her heart that she’d love to share before wrapping up.
First, Marion talks about her one-on-one program, Back to Love, which focuses on helping people, especially women, reconnect with their essence, their heart, and their inner safety. It’s about peeling away the layers that disconnect us from our true selves. Currently, this program is open to women, though Marion hints that it might be extended to men in the future.
She also shares her work with psychedelics, which spans seven weeks. This program offers a transformative experience, one that isn’t about making grand promises like many other coaching programs, but instead focuses on teaching people how to hold space for themselves. In this space, they gain the tools to navigate life’s challenges, and the wisdom they gain through their psychedelic experiences can be applied to any situation in life.
Remember the importance of balance—particularly the balance between the masculine and feminine energies. She believes it’s vital for women to take responsibility in rebalancing this dynamic, not only for their own well-being but for the harmony of the world. It’s a collective responsibility that, she feels, is shared by both women and men alike.
